About Tung Lok Mooncake

TungLok group owns many of famous restaurants around Southeast Asia, famous in Singapore for their TungLok Seafood, TungLok Signature and TungLok Teahouse restaurants. Bringing to Singapore elements of the Chinese and Japanese cuisines, it is impossible to imagine a Mid-Autumn Festival without the trademark mooncakes on the menu at any TungLok location.

Tung Lok Mooncake have received the seal of approval from the Health Promotion Board and found a way to decrease the sugar used in preparation of these delicacies by reportedly 30%, although the group seem to be modest and claim it’s no less than 25%.

The same way they pride themselves on the constant evolution of the seafood programme – despite being considered among the world’s best at it, they make sure their mooncakes are always just as unique, recognisable and unparalleled.

Healthier Mooncakes – Less Sugar, Same Sweet

TungLok aims to please their customers with every time you sink your teeth into their mooncakes, offering a wide range of different products. Unforgettable but still original taste despite decreased amounts of sugar was something that at first sounded impossible – yet TungLok pulled it off.

The way TungLok accomplished this is by using Allulose, a naturally occurring novel sugar lower in calories and free of simple carbohydrate that is glucose. Allulose gives the same clean sweet flavour but only 10% of the calories that regular sugar has.

If you are wondering why only 30% of the sugar in mooncakes is replaced by Allulose, the answer is quite simple: While it seems like a fantastic alternative, Allulose has only been around for a few years and tests are still being run globally. Odds are – you’ve had a lot of it in your life already. It’s found in figs, raisins, wheat, and jackfruit so far.

Product Selection

TungLok offer a huge variety from mooncakes to choose from, so let’s go through this list! Egg Yolk White Lotus, Egg Yolk Red Lotus, Double Egg Yolk White Lotus, Double Egg Yolk Red Lotus, Macadamia Nuts White Lotus, Melon Seeds with Red Lotus are the 6 regular sized cakes.

Worry not, as they are followed by a couple of snow skins – Mini Snow skin White Lotus with Nuts, Mini Snow skin Egg Yolk White Lotus and ultimately Mini Mooncake Egg Yolk White Lotus.

Additional Health Kick

Because of this next move, it seems like TungLok went all out on producing the healthiest mooncakes. Not only are their delights rich in dietary fibre, the White Lotus with Macadamia Nuts Snow skin cakes are infused with a Moringa Leaf – a superfood known to contain vitamins A, C and E, calcium, potassium and protein, while supporting brain health, having an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory role, and aids the liver.

In return for not being completely devoid of sugar, TungLok decided to make you healthy during the holidays!

Special Edition Boxes

Those super healthy mooncakes come in a box of 8 pieces, but are not the only ones! Petals Mochi Snow skin Mooncakes also come in a box of 8, specially shaped as a 7-petal lotus flower.

TungLok have a Limited Edition Treasure Box, containing four Double Yolk White Lotus mooncakes baked to a perfect shade of golden brown. Aside from everyone’s favourite pastry, the box itself is gorgeous – it’s embellished with exquisite handcrafted jewellery goldfish and lotus flowers, enhanced by a USB powered LED light. It was made with one purpose only – to be the best gift you can either give or receive this year.

There are a few more special edition boxes, like the TungLok perfect duo containing two of Double Yolk Red and Double Yolk White Lotus mooncakes. The TungLok Four Seasons Collection features two new special flavours – aside from Egg Yolk in Red and White Lotus, there’s Egg Yolk Pandan Lotus with Pistachios and Mixed Nuts mooncakes, one of each flavour in the box.

Our personal favourite is the Bite-Sized Mooncakes Collection containing 16 pieces of various mixed flavours!
